The basic design of a pallet racking system

There are multiple styles of pallet racking system available to accommodate the specific needs of the warehouse. Along with making an informed decision for the proper racking system, it’s also important that the components are transported to the warehouse securely and in peak condition. Pallet racking systems are sometimes referred to as bulk storage racks, warehouse shelving racks, warehouse racking systems, teardrop racks, industrial shelves or warehouse mezzanines. This industrial storage system organizes pallets of materials in rows on metal shelves. The design includes multiple levels of shelving that are accessed by forklifts. By utilizing vertical space, the pallet racking system maximizes storage capabilities. Optimizing square footage makes the most of the building, increasing profitability. Pallet racking systems are wonderfully flexible, offering a wide array of styles and sizes. Most systems are made up of two main components, frames and cross beams. Vertical column or pallet rack uprights run from the floor to the top shelf of the system. The frame features a series of holes, allowing shelf size to adjust based on requirements. The height of a frame is decided by the height of a loaded pallet combined with the height of a beam and another four inches of clearance. This number is multiplied by the number of levels required. Cross beams connect the upright frame on both ends. Two cross beams provide a shelf for pallets and materials.
